Click to Change Sketch Plane widget in the way

Recently, when using the line tool in Sketch view, at every point I click, a widget pops up that invites me to "Change the sketch plane." This widget is often in the way of my clicking the next point, if the next segment is short. It is horrifically annoying.
I really have two questions: First, what useful thing can I do with this feature? Clicking on it does, indeed appear to change the sketch plane, but not in a way I have been able to usefully control.
And second, how do I make the infernal thing go away?

that´s why

If 3d sketch is activated, you can select the desired planes for elements in 3d sketches.
