Hello,

 

kindly asking for help. Lets say I have assembly composed of:

 

  • weldment A
    • bracket A1
    • bracket A2
    • .....
  • weldment B
    • bracket B1
    • bracket B2
    • .....
  • pin

All components inside both weldments are fully contrained by joints and weldment A is grounded. Plan is that pin is fixed in weldment A and weldment B can rotate around pin. So I created fix joint between pin and bracket A1 and revolute joint between pin and bracket B1. Everything works but if I want to rotate weldment B by drag and drop I have to click and drag only bracket B1. If I click and drag by bracket B2 it doesnt work. Can you please tell me what am I doing wrong? Thank you.

My assembly is actually quite big and I dont want to share it. So I created similar one where the same issue can be shown (see file). Please dont be confused, parts names are not the same as in first message.

 

Try to drag blue sidewalls. One works, second not.

In my opinion the reason the rotation cannot be controlled by dragging either one of the sidewall components as both levers in because you only have one revolve joint between one axle and bearing on one side.  There is no rotational path between the one lever and sidewall to the opposite lever and sidewall.  You will have to add two more revolve joints to make it function if you want "to drag" any component.  The key phrase here is if you want "to drag" any component.  If you want to right click and chose Animate Model on top level joint Rev7, you do not need to add any joints at all.  Model is attached which you can drag any component.

Thank you for feedback. I know that with Animate model everything works properly and that is why that behavior of click and drag was confusing for me. I have been using Invertor so far and there if I put next revolute constrain it would mean that model is overconstrained. Your proposal works but strage is that if I delete both "Levers" and then create only one revolute joint then click and drag works for all components.

You cannot start comparing Inventor, I assume you are using Assembly Constraints, and Fusion 360 joints.  They are far from being the same.  Motion, by dragging, is controlled by many factors but mainly the method of your assembly development and application order of your joints.  For example, if you had created the complete Weldment B, Pins and Levers as a Rigid Body, you could use only one Revolve joint and you could drag any of those components you desire and it would move.  Model is attached.

There are certainly possible differences between the multiple ways to animate a model:  component drag, Drive Joint, Animate Joint, and Animate Model.  I'd consider these bugs, but there are slight differences in implementation that occasionally bubble out to behavior.  It is not desirable.
