changing the axis of projected geometry

By default, when the geometry is projected, the geometry projects following the axis perpendicular to the sketch plane. Is there a way to change this so that it uses another axis to project? The attached screenshot demonstrates typical behavior. In my situation, I would like to project long the origin axis of the "steel" part rather than the current sketch planes origin axis.

There are a few ways to get the outcome.

Quickest is to extend / duplicate the original body and use Sketch > Project Intersect this extension where it passes the current sketch plane.

Similar but different is to Project to Surface on destination sketch plane with Vector assignment.

Both require a dummy body.

Might help.....
