The offset tool has become difficult to use because the canvas entry field prematurely clips its contents.

1) Bring up a sketch

2) Offset a curve

3) The default value comes up as 1.000mm and the field only barely contains this text

4) The text is right aligned for some reason, so when the number inevitably gets bigger, the most significant digits (and sign) are clipped

Ideally the text box should grow to match the value entered, but at the very least, the field should be bigger and the text should be left aligned.

Other tools start with a larger text field (and seem to have different rules for decimal precision).

Is it 8.533? 18.553? -8.533? Hard to say.

It is definitely not the best solution but in the video I show how you can get the full display of the offset value, even the negative sign, if it exists.  I did not test this on other entry fields but I assume it will fix them as well.

Hey look at that. It's like they widen that box by a hardcoded amount if that box is checked? I wouldn't have thought to try that. Thanks John.

I'm clicking 'accept solution' to give John his due credit, but boy do I wish this field would get a couple hours of engineering love scheduled to it. (Think I've said that before)
