Cannot open .dwg file. Fusion360 freezes.

Hello dear F360 support people,

 

I am trying to open a .dwg file, but Fusion360 will just freeze when trying to open it. Uploading it works, but opening it doesn't work. "Application is not responding" even after a looong waiting time. I attached the .dwg file here. It is not made by me, so I do not have details about the file. All I know is it has been made to be able to CNC, so I'm assuming its 2D. Anyone have any idea why it's not working? Thanks a lot in advance!

The file contains almost 37,000 curves, Fusion can not handle that amount of sketch data. You are going to need to break it down in some other software into far smaller files.

@Anonymous - I suspect that you don't want to try load this DWG into Fusion.  Fusion takes all 2D information and puts it in a sketch.  This is what your DWG looks like in viewer.autodesk.com:

I don't know what the actual entity count is here, but I would guess it is in the thousands, maybe tens of thousands of curves.  Zooming into one area:

The sketcher will choke on just the amount of data in this zoomed-in area.

 

What do you hope to get by importing this into a Fusion sketch?  If you want to use some subset of this drawing for sketch profiles, I'd recommend cutting this down to just the data you plan to use before you import it into Fusion.  The Fusion sketcher will handle a couple hundred entities fine, but just cannot handle this many curves.

Thanks for the answer. I hope to be able to use the F360 CAM that I am used to and cut the pieces out on my CNC. It would seem that the pieces I want to actually cut are on the bottom, beside the front/back/side views of the speaker. Would you have a (free) program in mind which I could use to "break" this .dwg down into smaller pieces?

You could try QCad. Also make use of layers to break up parts as different sketches so you don't overload a single sketch in fusion.
