Cannot edit a 'move component' action in the timeline

I have a problem editing a moved object action in the timeline. I can highlight the action and can select edit. The timeline marker moves to the point just after the action to be edited but no dialogue for the editing action appears. At this point the timeline marker is locked into position and cannot be moved. The only way to extricate oneself from this situation is to right click and undo.

I have to assume that 'move object' actions cannot be further edited - in which case it would be preferable for the edit dialogue to not be present. The solution in my case is to move the timeline marker to just after the prior move and to insert another move action.

Hi @Swarfmaker,

Just to check - are you trying to edit a capture position marker in the timeline? This is denoted by an orange symbol and is the timeline marker after you capture the position of a move component. I am just trying to differentiate if you are moving a body or a component - as editing a move body should bring up the Move dialog again.

If you are editing the capture position, what happens here is you are allowed to move the components again to where you want them, and once done you need to capture position again, or cancel. I will admit, it sneakily pops up in the top-right corner of your ribbon after you edit the capture position.

I am just selecting one of the 'Position XX' (where XX is a number) markers in the timeline to edit.

Hi @Swarfmaker,

Ah, yep, so that is what I was referring to with a "Capture Position" (sorry old terminology). So if you right-click and edit this from the timeline, what actually appears in term of dialogs is at the top-right of your ribbon (see my screencast from my last post). While you are editing this position, you can either move the component again and when done click the green check mark (Accept Position Edit) , or if you do not want to make any changes you can click the Cancel Position Edit.

Ah ,yes James! I do get the options to 'Accept' or 'Cancel' as per your earlier screen capture. I had not noticed this change as I was expecting the normal 'Move' dialogue box.

I now see that I can move the component, but only in the axis that was last used when the move command was initiated. The history of multiple 'move' actions i.e rotate, move, rotate in another axis etc. which can be done in sequence with the original dialogue box open, doesn't appear to be captured.

Am I right?

Hmm, I do believe you are right with subsequent commands, but the singular axis issue seems odd to me. Just to check are you using the manipulators to drag or typing in values? For instance, in the move dialog if you type in values for different axes, can you get it to move that way?

Hi James,

Having highlighted the operation, clicked 'edit', then the top menu line appears as per your screen grab. The component that was the subject of the series of 'move' actions which were originally accomplished by combinations of both manipulators and numeric values, is highlighted.

In this state it can be 'picked' and moved in what I suspect was the last axis of the original group. However, as there is no dialogue box on the screen for axis selection, move type, or numeic value, there is nothing by which anything else can be accomplished.
