Cannot close polygon prior to extrude

Hello,

I just started learning, and worked my way through Parts 1, 2 and partway through Part 3 of Lars Christensen's "conduit box" tutorials, but I got stuck on preparing a polygon shape prior to extruding.  I'm unable to complete full definition of the 2D polygon sketch, i.e. have it change color from light blue to black.  Polygon 1 image attached shows two attempts I made using the methodology used in the tutorial to add the ridges in the box lid by starting with a free form polygon and then making the left and right edges vertical, adding left-right symmetry and adding constraining dimensions.

1) What step am I missing to complete full polygon definition?

2) In the Polygon 2 image, I couldn't complete the polygon perimeter (leading to the lower right polygon in Screenshot 1) by moving from point-to-point in sequence due to the third line segment being constrained horizontally, so I had to restart a new line at the polygon apex and then finish working my way around to the start point.  I didn't have this issue constructing the upper-left polygon in the Polygon 1 image, what is different?

3) Also note (see the Polygon 3 image) that I had trouble forcing a dimension from the top of the right edge to the X-axis, as the whole polygon shifted downward instead of "stretching".  How should the polygon reference points be selected for proper "stretch" style dimensioning?

I suspect issues 2) and 3) may be coupled to Issue 1).  I'm using the free version in Windows 10.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi,

1. please place a link to the mentioned contribution of Lars

2. Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d locally  > attach it to the next post.

3. Please embed images in the text in future. You can do this by clicking on the camera symbol in the editing window.

This saves readers from having to switch back and forth between text and images to understand  the content.

Hello G.

Here is the link you requested to the Lars Christensen tutorial:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zS8dYA_Iluc&t=716s

I solved my issues:

1) My polygon was not referenced to the active component origin, specifying a dimension from a polygon apex to the origin made the polygon color turn from blue to black.

2) My point-to-point polygon perimeter definition was interrupted because I tried to place an intermediate point on the construction line (used to enforce symmetry).  I avoided this line during perimeter definition and instead moved the whole polygon with its apex coinciding with the construction line afterwards.

Thank you for the tips on saving the file and embedding the images.

Best regards
