Please try restarting Fusion and if that doesn't help, restart your computer.

Any update on this issue?  I still run into this problem quite frequently.  Is "keep restarting until it works" the plan of record solution?

@Anonymous  Thanks for asking. Restarting Fusion should not be the only solution here. Unfortunately, "orbit" is achieved using at least 5 different methods, so it might help to explore your particular situation and not assume it's the same issue as the other person posting on this thread.

  • What kind of mouse are you using?
  • What is your operating system?
  • With what method do you use Orbit?

Hi Greg,

My mouse is a Logitech M705. Windows 10 with all the regulaly scheduled updates. I'm typically doing "Constrained Orbit" by clikcing the orbut button on toolbar that floats near the bottom of the design view. Usually this works fine, but sometimes none the buttons in said tool bar respond to clicks. Sometimes closing and restarting Fusion 360 fixes things, but sometimes it does not. Once the toolbar works, it works for the entire time I have Fusion open. The problem only manifests itself when I first open my design from a new Fusion session.

One thing I want to try is to first attemp to use Orbit using the bottom toolbar in the default blank design that opens by default with Fusion starts before I open my design. Perhaps there's something in my design file thats and how it loads that is causing grief? Other than that, I want to explore alternative ways to access all the tools in that toolbar and get out of the habit of using the toolbar at all..

Thanks for you attention,
Clay

Thanks for the details.

I can't say I've seen exactly what you describe, but the only problem I've ever had with my own logitech mouse is fading batteries. When only some clicks start to fail I always change the batteries and the problem goes away.

There are drivers for your mouse, make sure you have the latest.

It might also be necessary to update your graphics drivers, let me know if you need help with that. Do not use the Windows update tool, it can sometimes show no problem when really drivers are out of date significantly. Try the manufacturer driver page for your video card.

Regarding navigation in Fusion, and methods to orbit/pan/zoom:

  • The best way to do navigation is using the mouse and keyboard buttons/shortcuts.
  • There are several distinct modes of navigation. These are selectable and graphically explained in the Quick Setup guide. Look on the ?Help menu for Quick Setup.

Here is my favorite method, Tinkercad mode. It places all navigation on your mouse with no additional keyboard hotkeys required.

Tinkercad mode.png

The only other concern I have is that you report the navigation bar becoming unresponsive, which is not a typical complaint. Of course if we can reproduce that bug it's possible to debug it and fix it in the code. Please let me know if that problem continues after all the updates and steps above. Glad to look deeper into whatever is causing that.

Good luck, best regards,

Thanks @Phil.E.  Sorry for the late response.  I tried Tinkercad mode and like it. I have yet to acquire a taste for the "Marking Menu" and much prefer the right mouse button for orbit.

I still get the unresponsive navigation bar from time to time (Fusion version 2.0.10148), but now it looks like I can resolve the problem by just closing the re-opening the design rather than having to completely shut down Fusion.

It's not really reproducible.  I could send you a pointer to my design but who knows if you'll see the behavior on your end.

As of today, I am also having problem with orbiting ... I have been using Fusion 360 for over a year and have had no change of behaviour with orbiting and now I can only do it with the cube at the top right.

I did change my PC but that was 9 months ago and I have not changed any hardware since.

I have updated all drivers and no other software is affected

I bought a spacemouse and never had the same problem again. And i can really recommend it even without that problem. I use to get hurt in the arm before after 5-6hours/day and a lot of the movement change to left hand so it helps a lot.

Thanks for your reply though for some reason it started to work again all of a sudden !  so frustrating !

I had a look at the spacemouse and it looks very good ... but unfortunately it's outside my price range 😞

Im having the the same problem. Orbit will stop working after using fusion for a few minutes. Cant orbit with the mouse, (right click via tinker mode or by selecting the orbit button from the bottom menu). Nor will it orbit or change view by clicking the ortho cube in the upper corner. Super frustrating. Ive tried restarting fusion and my computer. but i loose the orbit ability within the first ten minutes of use each time after the reboot.

Im running a 2021 macbook pro. ironically I did not have this problem on my 2012 macbook. fusion has been freshly re-installed.

This is not a commonly reported issue.

What sort of mouse are you using? Extra monitors?

Do the named views continue to function after the view cube and orbit command have failed?

Hey Phil,

Thanks so much for your help! Im using a logitech mouse, but I also tried it just using the tack pad, and Im just using the laptop screen. Ultimately I discovered it was related to the operation I was performing (a multiple plane sketch). when I modeled the part a different way I no longer had the problem.

Hey Phil,

Do you have a mouse recommendation?  After playing around some more I think that may have been the culprit.

I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to hardware. I prefer rock-solid, dirt-cheap, dead-simple gear. So my recommendation is only personal. I use a logitech M100 mouse.

Sorry to Chime in, but this is my problem, My SpaceMouse works perfect on Fusion, say when I'm doing a Press Pull, then as soon as I hit enter or finish that task or finish sketch, suddenly my movement is limited, and I can't do the majority of Spacemouse movements. However, when I use the cube in the top right hand corner, or the actual 'orbit' button at the bottom right above the timeline, they work as expected.

This happens multiple times, so far, I've determined that it always works when I'm in the middle of a press pull, and never works as soon as I complete the press pull function.

What model of spacemouse do you have and what version of the drivers are you using?

So I have a now discontinued SpaceNavigator (3DX-600028) but I'm also using a new/current model CADmouse Compact (3DX-600068)

I believe I am using the latest driver version (3DxWare64_v10-8-7_r3448)

Thanks

Have you applied the legacy spacemouse drivers in preferences?

PhilE_0-1656356658130.png

If prompted to restart after making a preference change, do not use the prompt to do so. Close the preference dialog (after committing the change), wait 30 seconds, then manually close down and restart Fusion.

Does this help?
