Can't trim intersecting lines within same sketch

Hi! Total newb here. I've run into a few problems along the way, but have been able to solve all of them and I'm starting to get the hang of things. But last night I ran into an issue that I can't find a solution to.

In the attached file, I have a guitar rosette I'm trying to design to test inlay capability. It's just flower petals surrounding a ring. Expected it to go very simply, but for whatever reason, I cannot cut the intersecting lines to create a single pocket for the whole design. One of them worked, but none of the others will. I'm getting error messages, but cannot find any clear info about what I need to do in my specific case. I'm sure this is a simple, stupid mistake, but I can't figure it out.

I don't have the time to watch seminars and study this program like I wish I could, so I'm just brute forcing it when I have the time. That usually works out for me in the end, as it gives me more rudimentary first-hand experience, but for now, I'm stuck. So, if it's a ridiculously simple fix, please just inform me and refrain from the insults I've seen towards new users.

I'm attaching a copy of the file, and a screencast of the issue and errors I'm getting. Thank you so much in advance for your assistance.

I don't see the screencast I've attached. I've tried to attach it 3 times now and it seems to work, but isn't showing up on my post. Not sure what to do about that.

Edit: Every time I try to attach the public screencast, it shows up in the message body, but when posting, I get the error "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied." I'm using the "Attach Screencast" option, and also have tried to insert the link. Neither are working

Thank you so much! Really, I appreciate your quick and helpful response. Just for the sake of knowing better in the future, I would like to know whether I did something wrong, or if this is a bug of some sort. If you or anybody else can chime in on that, I'd appreciate it, just so I know how to avoid this in the future.

Thanks again! Your help will get me up and running again so I can test this out.

I'm actually having another problem following your method now, which I had last night trying to do this. In your screencast, when you add the outer circle that connects to the petals, the right side of the remaining petals curvature changes so that it's asymmetric. It's subtle, but if you watch it, the upper curve changes. It's happening to me too. Not sure how to constrain that curve, but I'll try to figure it out.

Edit: Figured this out. Very simple, sorry.

it's not the trim, it's the profile warning that is blocking the trim:

If you turn off profiles temporarily, you can trim just fine.  This error usually means that you have some problematic or degenerate geometry in your sketch, so the next step is to find that.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

the next step is to find the bad geometry.  The way to do that is to just turn profiles back on, and delete stuff until the error goes away, undo, and delete more stuff.  I found that one of your splines is a bit wonky using this method:

and then, undo all the way back.  Now that you've found the bad curve, you can fix it up, and everything should be OK again:

Thank you for the helpful response! I was messing with some features that are new to me last night, and I believe one of them was profiles. I was trying to keep a component of the sketch as is, so I could also mill the male insert components of the inlay, not just the pocket, without starting a whole new design and trying to replicate the shapes I had already made. I'm guessing that's causing some interaction with the sketch I was trying to edit. Although I'm not seeing the profile anywhere now. Again, I'm very new to this.

Anyway, thank you so much. That gives me more insight into what I'm running into.

Just saw your last two screencasts. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me here. I genuinely appreciate it a lot. That was very thorough, and was exactly what I needed to know. That info will be invaluable in the future. Just fixed it, and it's working perfectly. I'll know what to look out for next time.

Thanks again!

Hi,

I think this effect is an event that happens now and then and is therefore unsuitable as a learning effect.
