Can't place decal correctly because surface geometry confines controller

Working on modeling a kitchen timer.  The top surface is a domed ring.  when I attempt to place a decal, the center portion prohibits my placing the graphics in the proper location.  Typing in the coordinates in the dialog box also does not work.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

yeah, this a known and unfortunate issue with decal.  The problem is needing a spot on the surface to place the decal, and if there is no material there, Fusion can't do that.  It is on our list to fix.

The usual workaround is to create another surface body, remove or patch the hole to give you some material there, and place the decal on that body.  Then, turn the opacity down to zero to hide it.  In the screencast, I actually moved the duplicate up by .25mm to avoid z-fighting with the original.  Messy, I know...
