Can't move object from one component to another.

Hi there.

This has been bugging me for a few days, as I could move bodies around on my first test design but can't in the design that actually matters.  Well, it doesn't matter for rendering and sending parts to print, but I'd like to learn about the whole animation side of things and need to put bodies into new components with differing joints and constraints. (Lesson leant!)

But with this design, no matter what I do, I cannot move a body from one group to another.  I click the object and drag it to the new group, no go.  I right click, select move group, select new group, no go.  I swear and threaten the pc, no go.

The only other post I've been about to find on this suggests making sure the time line is scrubbed to the end, well, mine couldn't be any more endier.  Both ends, in the middle, side step to the left, etc, no go.

Nothing is grounded, nothing is grouped, nothing is jointed, but I have been messing with these as I've been learning and I'm pretty sure I've done something at some point that would stop objects moving.

So rather than asking how I fix this seemingly unmovable problem, I'll ask what situations could cause an object to become immovable?  Then I can backtrack and try to locate the point at which things stop without having to do this manually over hundreds of changes.

Just to re-iterate, this isn't moving an item in the design space, this is moving an object from the group it was created in, to a group of other objects in the explorer tree.

Many thanks.

Hi ,

It depends really on the model, but the simplest answer is - dependencies.

The timeline is a series of instructions that you tell the software to perform. If step 1 is creating a body, and step 1 is related to steps 3, 4, then likely you cannot move that body around and reorganize it. If you share your model and an example of what you are trying to move, I'm happy to try to help.

A good test to prove my point is disable the timeline. To do this, click the gear in the lower-right hand corner and do not capture the history. Use this purely as a test.... after being disabled can you move it around?

Thanks,
