Bug Lofted Ellipse Combine Join Bug

I am trying to combine / join features to a tapered elliptical spoke, one on top and the other on the bottom and no matter what I do, the spoke deforms when the second feature is either combined or joined.

It is not graphical as the mass shows less when deformed.

I have tried literally a dozen different ways to get this to work out with no luck. Of course a rectangular spoke has no problems.

So as I was typing it occurred to me that I lofted one ellipse to another to get the spoke so instead I extruded from one ellipse with a taper angle. That allowed everything to combine with no problems although the small end of the spoke is no longer a perfect ellipse but it should not cause a problem in this model.

Maybe someone can figure out the cause of the issue. @jeff_strater

well, I was on vacation (and, in fact still am...).  Yes, this is very strange.  I will look at it when I get back.

OK, I was finally able to get around to this.  It is, indeed, a graphics/faceting issue, because if I change the display level of detail to "medium", the problem goes away.  I will send this to the team that owns the faceting subsystem.
