BUG: Cannot create create closed spline with latest version of Fusion 360

Hi there,

I'm designing a fan blade and have been using Fusion 360 to make a 3D model.

What I have done in the past is to create the aerofoil shape in a fan design package, export it as a 3D CSV and then use the 'ImportSplineCSV' script (⇧S) to pull a spline from a file (like the attached file).

The next step was then to close the trailing edge (see picture 1 and 2) using a simple line, and then extrude/loft the profile.

The problem I am facing is that now when I close the profile at the trailing edge, it doesn't have the 'yellow/solid' colour that allows me to extrude. With past versions of Fusion 360 I have been able to do this no problem (last month it was working), but now I cannot seem to get the section to close.

Is there something that has changed in the latest version?

Can anybody else download the attached file and import it into Autodesk Fusion, close the trailing edge and extrude?

Is there any way for me to downgrade my Autodesk software?

Thanks

One strange thing is, is that if I scale this CSV file down 100 times (divide all numbers by 100) then import, I *can* close the profile and extrude.

After closing the profile, if I use Fusion 360's 'scale' option to blow up the profile, it's no longer extrudable.

I can confirm that this is a bug. I managed to find a version of Fusion 360 from my Time Machine backup, dated 12th August 2017. I restored this version (not sure if this is recommended!) and then re-imported the spline and closed the trailing edge. Everything worked as expected with this version.

It seems that this is a bug with the September release of Fusion 360. So 3 things:

1. Please take a look and fix the bug!

2. Please give the option to downgrade/allow downloads of older versions

3. Please add a setting to the preferences to disable automatic upgrade. I just opened the old version of Fusion 360 and it immediately downloaded the buggy update which I don't want to use!)

Hi @p.robertson,

Thank you for reporting the issue! I confirmed the issue on my machine too and I've passed along this information to the development team. (the ticket ID is FUS-35501) I apologize for the inconvenience.

As for your requests regarding automatic update, you can find similar requests in the IdeaStation here and  I recommend you upvote those ideas. The IdeaStation is constantly monitored by developers and product managers, and is currently the most effective way to request a product enhancement. Other forum users will have the opportunity to Vote or add Kudos to the Idea. Votes on an idea will increase the likelihood that an idea will be implemented.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Fusion 360 is an awesome piece of software, but it's almost impossible to make sure there are never any bugs. I understand this happens some times and I'm glad you're working quickly to fix it.

The two suggestions above (disable auto-update and allow users to 'downgrade') were two methods I thought that could help solve this problem if it occurs again for future users.

I have added some information in IdeaStation

Keep up the amazing work guys!

@masa.minohara

Can you please give me an update on the status of FUS-35501? I have just tried with the latest version of Fusion 360 as of today (19th Jan 2018) and it is *still* not fixed.

Do you have a timeline for when this bug will be fixed? It makes importing via spline practically non-useable.

Hi @p.robertson,

The development team is still working on the issue right now but unfortunately we are not sure about ETA at the moment. I'll post an update as soon as I have one.

I apologize for the inconvenience.
