Hi there!
Just finally found the Component Color Switch function and that was a huge navigation improvement (should be on by default once there's more than one component in a design, IMO). I have a few suggestions though that I think could further help to improve navigation -- I find myself often looking for 5+ seconds for the body or sketch I'm looking for:
- Use different, identifiable icons for "Origin", "Bodies", "Sketches", etc. folders so that they are easily distinguishable at a glance.
- For the Color Switch function, continue the color indicator all the way down (but perhaps as a thin line) until the next component. This is fairly common amongst programmers for quickly identifying indents, for example:
Since there's quite a few things happening in the browser, this would help to visually quickly identify and navigate nested components as well. - Add a quick search (maybe it exists already and I don't know about it?).
- Allow me to change the auto-assigned color coding for Component Color Switch.
- Move the active-component radio button selector to the left of the name, but right of the expand/collapse arrow, and make it always-visible. The "disappearing act" it performs today adds zero value, and being to the right of the name makes for a "jumpy" experience as the length of the names is variable.
- Slightly gray-out everything that isn't part of the active component(s).
- Remove the "dashed underline" for items with warnings and simply change the text color of the item, orange being the most popular. The current underline isn't obnoxious enough and can easily go unnoticed in a large design.
- Add a double-click-the-name to expand/collapse function.
- Add some sort of optional/expand-collapse-able quick component navigator to be able to quickly show/hide/select entire components. This takes way too many brain cycles today in the existing tree 😉 I would suggest a separate section in the browser+comments expand/collapse-thingy.
- Add the option to enable/disable the transparent background of the browser. I personally keep the browser "floating" as I find having it in the workspace with the transparent background (and gray text backgrounds on-top of that) very "busy" -- though I would prefer to have it docked in the workspace as I find floating windows annoying.
Anyway, just a few random ideas I've collected that would make (at least my..) browser experience a little more enjoyable when a design starts getting a little bit bigger 🙂
