Blurry / Pixelated Text in Sketch

Anonymous

Hello Autodesk Community,

I am new to Fusion 360.

I want to create text in sketch which is not blurry. Currently I am getting blurry / pixelated text...

My current method to create text:

  1. Select 'SKETCH'
  2. Select 'Create Sketch'
  3. Choose a plane
  4. Select 'SKETCH'
  5. Select 'Text'
  6. Select point
  7. In the 'Text' field I write the desired text, e.g. DM
  8. In 'Height' I adjust the size of the text, e.g. 100.00 mm
  9. Select 'OK'
  10. Select 'STOP SKETCH'

Using the method described above I get the following sketch (I have zoomed in a little to highlight the extent of the pixelation):

Untitled.png

I do not seem to have a problem with any other sketch elements and objects/forms. It is only when I use text that the sketch is blurry.

When I extrude the text the objects created are smooth:

Untitled2.png

Similarly, when I explode the text the sketches created are smooth:Untitled3.png

Currently I am exploding all text...

It is quite strange why this is happening. I have tried fix mentioned here with no luck:

Adjusting Windows 10 display scaling settings for Fusion 360

I tried Application, System and System (Enhanced). After the Windows 10 update, the interface is slightly different from the one shown here but I got the gist.

I am using the following system:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134
System Manufacturer: HP
System Model: HP Pavilion Notebook
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2904 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory: 7.89 GB
Available Physical Memory: 3.86 GB
Total Virtual Memory: 9.76 GB
Available Virtual Memory: 4.76 GB
Page File Space: 1.88 GB

I am using the following software:

Autodesk Fusion 360

2.0.4126

Active Plan: Fusion 360 Ultimate, Trial

Expires: June 07, 2018

(I know I could have print screened the information but it is better to write it so it can be copied/shared more easily)

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting in the forum! I am seeing the same behavior on my computer and I believe this is the current limitation. (I don't consider this as a defect)

However, I'll report this as an enhancement request to the development team. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Hallo,

This effect is purely graphic and has no influence on features like extrusion or emboss.
If it bothers you, you can convert the text to paths by right-clicking "Explode".

Exploding the text just gives you the same problem.  The lines are not smooth with this letters that are 2 inches tall. Last time I saw an issue like this was back in the late 90s.  Yes, tolerance is .01.    It appears that Fusion 360 is tracing the letters based on very low resolution fonts that really only are good at small scale.  It seems fonts are not equal in Fusion 360.  Some fonts have this issue and some do not.

This is quite frustrating that 4 years later something as basic as creating 3D text still does not work correctly. Even with font scaling turned off, the default Windows TrueType fonts, which are sharp and perfect in every other app are fuzzy in Fusion 360 and when extruded do not give smooth (or accurate) letters. I am reduced to manually creating letters using primitives to get decent lettering.

note that after using the "explode text" option, while it looks blurry onscreen, it converted to a nice smooth (and accurate) font outline that I can use. Still seems wonky to have it display so poorly but at least it can be used.

You can extrude the text without exploding it (well most of the time, some fonts do not work). That's why they're not too worried about the fuzzey look, the sketch for most people is just used to create the 3d part, not to look at.

The purpose of design is too see what it will actually look like and tweak
before you cut. Especially important in tightly spaced designs. How are
you expected to design with fuzziness?....makes no sense at all.

Fusion is a 3d modeler and the sketches are just to create 3d parts, if you extrude the text it will be smooth. I know some people just create 2d sketches but that's not what Fusion's sketches are meant to be used for so don't expect the way it looks and works now to change any time soon. Lots of other stuff needs improving and fixing before something like this needs to be worked on just to help a non standard workflow.

@brentJMGR5 What font did you use here? I've not seen any come out this bad before and I'd be very suspicious of the quality of the font. Some fonts can be quite badly drawn with poor tangency between curves and overlapping splines. Looks OK when printed out and probably smoothed by Windows and the graphics programs but when converted to splines in Fusion the bad accuracy in the font becomes apparent like your example above. Fonts where just not designed for the accurate world of CAD.
