Best method to create design

What is the best method to create this design?  I first tried to create each board as a component.  But getting the sizes and angles correct was difficult.  Also joining the components was difficult.  I then tried a different approach.

I started with a new design drew the outline of the design.  Then created a 1/2 offset from each line.  Once the shape that is in the picture was done.  I created new components and opened a new sketch.  Clicked on each part did an extrude.  After doing this to of the 5 parts I ended up with the below drawing. 

What would be the way most designers would create this design?

I am not saying that this is the best method, nor that most designers would do it this way.
It is just one way of many.

Thanks for the response.  That is an easy way to create a bird house.  My problem is that the sides of the bird house were at about a 10 degree slant.  I was able to create a sketch of the shape.   Then offset the parts by .5.  The problem I ran into was that when offsetting the sides the offset line was shorter that the original line because of the slant.  I think the solution is to make the lines longer than necessary then when all of the sides are the correct width go and trim all of the unnecessary lines.
