Are revisions to Timeline inserted or appended?

Mr Umption may have reared his ugly head again.

From watching the vids and reading the accompanying documentation I came to assume that rolling history back in the Timeline and making changes _inserted_ the changes in the timeline at this earlier location.  Likewise, when _activating_ a component and rolling the history marker back to a location also inserted the changes at that location.  And that an action in the Timeline, whether referenced globally or from within an activated component, referred to the same location.

I seem to have encountered situations where such has not been the case. (No, I don't have examples now, I've been too focused on making something work).  Is it indeed true, that an event in the Timeline when referenced globally or from within an activated component resolve to the same location?  Or have I made a erroneous assumption?

yes, your observations have led you the correct conclusion:  Insertion point in the timeline is independent of component activation.  The fact that the default setting filters timeline entries to show only those in the active component is just that:  A filter.  It does not move the current insertion point.  You can see that if you disable this:

Thank you.  Perhaps changing that setting will clarify some of my confusion.

Okay, now.  If I roll back the Timeline to when I created something and make changes to it, are the changes inserted, applied an the location to which I have rolled back the Timeline, or are the changes applied to the end of the Timeline and referenced back only to the object I have modified?

Is the Timeline a linked-list into which I  insert changes or a stack onto which I append changes?

I have been treating it as a linked-list.  Is old Mr. Uption messing with me again?

if you roll back the end-of-design marker (insertion point) then new features created will be created at that point in the timeline, not at the end of the timeline.
