Adjust/reassign parameters after ‘Paste New’

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help me with the issue in having.

I’ll caveat by saying I’m relatively new to using parameters in Fusion so it’s likely that I’m doing something wrong. At this point I’ve spent hours trying to find a solution and am still having no luck.

Basically I’m designing a set of built in cabinets for an office.

To do this, I started by creating a template that’s fully set up with parameters so I could tweak as needed.

My plan was then to design the suite by using this template as a starting point so I didn’t have to create each differently sized unit from scratch.

I understand that I therefore need to split the units that I want to be a different size from the original parameters and the way to do this is to ‘Paste New’.

However it’s from this point that I start to struggle.

After using Paste New, I have a replica of the template that isn’t linked to the original parameters. However I can’t find a way to assign new parameters or even adjust what’s there. Short of going through and extruding and moving everything by hand which feels like it defeats the purpose.

Ideally ‘Paste New’ would duplicate all the original parameters so that I could go in and adjust and reassign as needed while leaving the rest of the cabinets unchanged.

This really feels like something that should be an option so I’m sure I’m just missing something.

If anyone could help me out with a work around at the very least I’d be really appreciative.

Thanks!

This is how Paste New should work.  See the attached design.  All the parameters with the "_1" name are duplicated in the Paste New version of Component1, which is Component2.

You can go in and change the value of any of the "_1" parameters.

We'd have to see your design to be certain why this doesn't work for you.  Are you using local components, following Rule #1, etc?

Thanks for that, I read up on Rule  #1 and made sure to have a component created before I start on anything else.  I'm going to tentatively say that this has solved my issue.

I have now been presented with another issue that I was wondering if anyone could help with.

Now when I Paste New, I get an error message with a couple of my components along the timeline that have been mirrored.  The mirror feature shows the following error message "Failed to get owner occurrence transform".

I've tried redefining the sketch plane, however this just breaks the model and starts placing components in random locations.

So while I can now edit my parameters on the new component, I can't actually use it as the mirrored features break down.  Can you not use mirrors with parametric models?

Thanks!
