The controls for Pan/Zoom is more or less the same is Fusion 360 as opposed to other programs i have used. The problem is the rotation when tilting/twisting the navigator. In Fusion 360 the space navigator is rotating the object "object view", in some other program i have used, you can set it so the space navigator is moving the camera "Camera view".
Example; you are viewing your object from the front and want to watch the top of it. In Fusion 360 you need to tilt the space navigator backward to rotate the object so the top of the object comes in to view. In camera mode you need to pull the space navigator up, push a bit forward and tilt it forward. This will move the camera up and forward to get on top of the object and tilt the camera to look down at it from the top.
If you move the space navigator like that in fusion 360 the model will rotate backward to show the underside and move up, out of view while zooming out. The problem is that when you have wired your brain to use "camera view" it's not so easy to go to "object view". I have tried every setting I could find in Fusion 360 but nothing helps me.
It's like turning the mouse 180 degrees so you have the mousebuttons in your palm. Even if you know how you should move the mouse differently it's difficult to not make a mistake. If you have a space navigator you can try it out in the "Spacemouse demo" that comes with the 3Dconnexion driver. If you go into settings while in the demo you can change between object view and camera view.
I guess the solution is probably to be patient and just try to relearn. For some reason it just seemed easier today than when I first started. A couple more days maybe...
