360 got slow, started freezing now crashes

I'm pretty much a newbie, so be kind.

Been designing a product & the program started to slow, then freezing at times & now continually crashes (even my computer)

The computer has plenty of speed & memory so I doubt that could be the problem.

I my searching I did read if you copy an item too many times it can cause the program to slow but I've always been taught to keep copies of things so there is always something to go back to.

I am in the process of deleting as much as I can in an effort to recover some of the last few days work so I can at least save some of it so I can start again.

Have I just made too many copies of bodies, should I convert a piece into a component & then move on?

Only ever watching some beginner videos on the program I'm concerned that I'm not using the program properly & it was me that caused the issue that I've now been dealing with for 3 days.

360 won't let me save/export just a couple more parts so I can just shelve the project & start again (maybe having learnt a hard lesson!)

Any advice is very much appreciated, up until a few days ago (I've been in lockdown with Covid so this has been the perfect time to learn)

Cheers,

Frustrated Rod.

Hi @rod.drabsch

Do all files cause crashing/issues? For example, if you start a new file, draw a sketch... any slowness/problems? Can you share a file here that exhibits the behavior?

I don't see any crash reports under your email - if you are getting crash reports please send them in, they are really helpful for us!

I am interested in Fusion is 'crashing your whole computer' - I have never heard of this happening. It sounds like there may be a problem with your graphics card or maybe your memory. Have you tried updating your graphics driver?

Cheers,

Karina

Sorry for the late reply.

I was pretty sure everything was up to date in the pc but I did want to check (which it is)

There should also be enough free space for me to run stuff, so I'm unsure as to why this was happening.

I ended up going through my original sketch & deleted many of the copied bodies which of course did create some problems & lost of info, but after some time of deleting I slowly gained back being able to continue on the design of my item. I did try to open a new file & import a previously saved file but unfortunately it was saved as a STL file for 3D printing so that meant a heap of work to make it so I could continue to edit it. what a PITA ! Also I might add, for some reason my files are not being saved. I've been having to go back to auto saved files so I end up loosing a lot of work. I was off work with covid so it was a perfect opportunity to try & learn 360 but I wasted many days trying to recover from the crashes & re-working what is basically a simple design.  I'm very disappointed to say the least but knowing I'm am very new at all this  thought maybe I was doing something wrong?

Hi @rod.drabsch

There's a lot going on in your description - primarily it does sound like there may be some issues with the file structure that are causing the slowness.

Do all files cause crashing/issues? For example, if you start a new file, draw a sketch... any slowness/problems? Can you share a file here that exhibits the behavior?

As for the saving issue, do you get an error message? Can you screenshot and attach it here?

Cheers,

Karina

Howdy again,

I thought I make sure everything was right my end before replying again.

I have removed a couple of programs & made sure my computer is O.K.

It certainly seems to be.

It could be that even as this was a gaming computer (& has a great graphics card)

I do tend to run multiple things at once as I have 3 screens.

I tend to have Proface open for the printer & a saved docs page open on 1 screen.

Fusion 360 in the middle & often I am running youtube on the left screen for learning or just music.

Possibly with all this going on, Fusion just can't cope with it all & it crashes.

This computer in "theory" has plenty of power.

I've just got past another trial of Fusion & have now got a private user version as I think I've learnt enough to continue (but maybe I'm still missing something?

I "thought" I was being smart by up loading some files. (by the way, the STL file conversion doesn't really work) the same with slicing objects. Previous CAD programs I've used this has never been an issue.

Anyway, by separating some bodies & saving them as their own (instead of in the crashing environment) I was thinking it was me making too many copies in the one project.

Well, that hasn't worked either (I'm currently waiting on Fusion to unfreeze (I've ben trying to make a new part by copying & pasting it but the new body just disappears after clicking OK)

Up date: I've just noticed while waiting for fusion to "catch up" I clicked back here to this screen to continue typing & fusion went straight to freezing again.

Maybe the system just can't cope? (yet it should do)

Thanks

That model does not finish loading in the web viewer. Can you export it as a .f3d file and attach it to the next post ?

Would that be because I had the model open?
It froze on me again, so I let it be for the day.
