2 extruded bodies - Trying to use second body as a cutout in main body - No target error

Hello,

I'm brand new. I'm working on skills to build models for 3D printing. My current lesson is working on cutouts. I can perform the similar operation with a hole. My current task is to accomplish something similar but work my way toward doing this with an odd-shape cutout. For my current task I have a main body rectangular solid and a second body rectangular solid. I'm trying to coerce body2 as a cutout in the main body. Everything I try ends with the "No target" error. I started by working with sketches and bodies. Then I tried creating components from the bodies but that hasn't worked either.

It's likely I'm on a completely unsuitable path to accomplish this task so feel free to discard my approach and steer me in a better direction. Thanks for your input.

Looking at your design, I would suggest you complete one of these free courses that can be found here:

Those will likely answer the questions you currently have and you'll have new ones. But you'll be much better equipped to ask them 😉

Of course you're right about the learning materials. I have been moving slowly through some lessons but tangents, wild goose chases, boredom... keep me off track. I did notice my example was a bad one. I should have rotated the view and caught that. The second rectangle should be fully contained within the boundaries of the first. But I still get that error. In any case my nose is back in the book. Thanks for your time.

I agree you will benefit from some Fusion 360 Tutorials but your model can quickly be modified to achieve what I think you desire.  I have attached your model and provide a video of what I think you desire.  Let me know if you need any further help.
