Improve Search with Fuzzy / Forgiving Search Functionality

I wanted to share an idea that could make searching in Fusion a little easier for day-to-day use. Right now the search seems to work best when everything is typed exactly right, including spelling and spacing. Sometimes if there’s a small typo, extra space, or if only part of a name is typed, the item doesn’t show up and it can take a bit longer to find what you’re looking for. It would be really helpful if the search could be a little more forgiving, similar to how many modern systems work, where close matches still appear even if the wording isn’t perfect. That kind of “fuzzy” search would save time, especially when looking up products, materials, work orders, or customers, and would make it easier for both new and experienced users to find things quickly without needing to remember the exact wording every time.

Thank you for your idea, @jimmya333!

We'd need to be careful, as sometimes users may also be looking for a very specific code to apply a bulk action, for example. However, if it gets upvoted, we'll look into what approaches we can take.

Oh yes, I totally understand that — I run into the same thing where sometimes you do need to search something very specific, especially for bulk actions or exact codes. I was more just thinking it could maybe be an optional setting or toggle that users could turn on or off depending on how they like to search. That way people who want exact matching can keep it that way, and others who prefer a more forgiving search for day-to-day lookups could use that instead. Just thought I’d throw the idea out there since I know it could help with general searching, but I definitely get the need for precision too.
