what is with this simple shape I'm missing that Fusion 360 won't cut this simple knock out? it's like it's trying to cut out a "plane" under the surface.  it's a stupidly simple cut extrusion down 2 mm. Screen Shot 2022-03-02 at 2.37.18 PM.pngScreen Shot 2022-03-02 at 2.37.27 PM.png

The 2D toolpaths are not "Model Aware" so for what you are doing which is really a 3D operation thenyou should use the 3D Adaptive, easy to setup and use, see image below and attached modified file :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

that's odd, as I tried the 3D and it did the same thing.. oh well, likely something foolish I did.. thanks!  Still seems strange that the 2D won't work, it's a flat/single depth cut,.. still not getting why the 2D won't work..?

You can get 2D contour to work but as was stated above it is not model aware so you have to select each island as well. I've attached your example with the selections. Rather than selecting the face I had to select the edges.

Thanks guys!  really appreciate your help!

Still, there is something very wrong with the adaptive clearing not being "model aware" it makes zero sense to me. Seems to be a totally pointless setup if it can't do a simple single layer cut, the "face" path is all it really is then. What's worse is sometimes it works as expected, sometimes not.

anyway... lesson learned, again, Appreciate your help, people here are awesome!
