Unsupported geometry for 2D Open Pocket detection

Hi,

I'm trying to make a simple pocket but I get the following error: "Unsupported geometry for 2D Open Pocket detection". I don't really understand why. It seems like a really simple case.

I have attached the part (copied from another file, that's the reason there's errors in the timeline).

Any ideas?

Yes, I believe there are issues with the new system for 2D Pockets, either just select the edges for the open pocket or go to your "Preferences" and enable the Legacy 2D Pocket option as shown in the image below and it should then work OK for you 🙂

Hi @tiktuk, This is a known issue read about it HERE.

I would say you have two options delete these small radius corners.

Or second option is to machine all the way around the part by selecting the top surface and setting the height to a selection and picking the face you would like to machine to (heights tab).Forum.JPG

Found another option, I ran a 2d contour pass with 2 rough passes turned on, as you can see in the image it hooked around but does not contact the part.Forum2.JPG

See images below, image one and use the Red arrows to control the pocket which gives you image two, see attached file  🙂

Hi, Sorry to hijack this thread, but I just ran into the exact error and I tried enabling the legacy pocket feature, but still no go.

Here is the link to the file: https://a360.co/3mkink9

I was able to clear out the area by doing single contour with multiple offsets, selecting a single side of each post sticking up, but this was tedious. A better way would have been to get this to work by just selecting the whole bottom face like I have in the file.

Is there a trick to this?

You can also try the 3d strategy "Flat". I saw it mentioned in another, similar thread. Seemed to work for my problem too.

But strange that it's so difficult to make simple pockets, suddenly.

Hey, thanks for that tip. Thats actually pretty close to what I ended up doing manually. This would have been so much easier using the FLAT 3d pattern in the first place lol.

Yeah, I was also pretty stoked when I discovered it, very useful 🙂 !

OK, it is all about selection/selection/selection !!

Yes, we all know that the 2D stuff can be a bit tiresome, it will no doubt be made easier at sometime but it can be used fairly easily now 🙂

The file that you uploaded I was able to easily select and toolpath the 2D Adaptive Pocket and a straight 2D Pocket, see image below, attached modified file and a Screencast showing the approach/method I used to get it done, just different not a "workaround"  🙂 🙂 🙂

BTW It is much better to attach a Fusion file by going to :-

File > Export > Select f3d format > Save to a location on your computer > Then attach it to your reply.
