i would like to cut the small curve on the chuck side of this part prior to cutoff.  I would like to do this with the cut off tool.

i get a message to change the tool etc when i try.  It is common on manual lathes to use the cut off tool for many small operations  what am i missing in fusion ??

see attached part 🙂

thanks john

You could use the Turning Groove toolpath to profile the end, but in order to get the full modeled radius on the part you have you would end up parting off early, as you have to cut below the center line with the tip of the tool to finish the full profile. do you have a more conventional parting tool? say something with a .01 tip rad?  You could use that to groove to just below the diameter of the flat on the end then come in and part off.

i was hoping to use a stand square end cut off tool 0.125 inch wide.   The part actually has a small flat on the chuck side so that most of the profile would work.  this are small torlon roller bearings.  Will the grove path cut the radius part way down.  I will try in the mean time.  many thanks for the idea.

The Turning Groove toolpath acts in many ways like a profiling tool path in that when it goes to finish it will follow the profile. Mostly it uses grooving to rough the material away then you can set a finish pass and finish the profile.
