TORMACH 4TH AXIS AND POST PROCESSOR

I have been using FUSION 360 for a couple of weeks now. Particularly the lathe CAM portion. I am now getting ready to do some 4 axis milling. I was trying to post to the generic TORMACH post and got an error saying that post failed. Is the Generic Tormach post setup for 4th axis milling? If so is there something I need to do in setup. If not where would I find the proper post processor?

Thanks

The 4th axis needs turned on first if you read this post it has how to do it.  http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-post-processor-forum/how-to-set-up-a-4-5-axis-machine-configuratio...

Thanks Daniel,

I went through and made the adjustments as best I could. I get an error message. Please see attached. I am not an experience code writer. This is all greek to me.

Thanks,

Pete

Here you go, it post ok you will need to do a test first (disclaimer use at your own risk)

I have included a sample G code and a sample file the sample G code is from the sample file it's set up for the 4th axis to be on the left side of the mill.

when you instal the post processor file you will need to put it in your A360 drive place it in the camposts file.

You get to it by clicking on the title bar in the data panel that will open your cloud account then click the little blue arrow pointing down beside Fusion in the top left and select A360 drive.

and link to make it faster getting there https://a360.autodesk.com/drive/app/root

Hello Daniel,

In my case the rotary is set up to run on the right hand side of the table due to clearance. So I assume I simple reverse the rotation?

Nup it's easy to fix move the origin to the other end leave it how it is in the setup now so the x axis is pointing out not into the model that makes it run from a X+ to X-, how it is now it goes X- to X+.

see attached file but rember test first do a dry run before you cut anything and use at your own risk, I don't have a tormach machine to test with I can only sim

Daniel,

I've been trying to resolve a similar problem all day, assuming I'd done something wrong in setup or elsewhere (this is my 1st attempt at 4th axis use).

Your post looks like it's gonna work! Thank you!!

I need to understand the g-codes before I run this, some are unfamiliar, but that's OK, it's just part of the exploration.

It's a little frustrating that this functionality isn't more easily accessible. The most recent Tormach post specifically notes in the comments "Tormach PathPilot post for 3-axis and 4-axis milling with SmartCool support." - maybe so, but not without some knowledgeable fiddling!!

Thanks again :slightly_smiling_face:

It would be real cool If you can just try and post some G code from the new post one person has had a big fail with it, If it fail's let me know. It fails on the machine

The post here should be fine someone else used it today with no problems.

I am trying to find that stuff out my self at the moment about that new post, Tormach need to do some updates on the web sight and manual.

I won't have a chance to try this for a while BUT I'll gladly post the code and results here, either way.
