TiltMode error

TiltMode error

So I've been trying to learn more about the MultiAxis Tilting features, but it seems with any toolpath I apply this to I wind up getting this error message:

Error: TiltMode in range(3)

WHAT does this mean? Nothing seems to fix it, I've tried a hundred combinations on seemingly simple 3D toolpaths (in which the feature is available that is) with exactly zero successes. It's driving me nuts to not get SOMETHING I can look at and tweak.

Has anyone out there had luck looking at these?

If anyone is actually looking at this thread, I did a complete clean uninstall/reinstall today. No change, can't get a toolpath with tilting to work (in this case a 3D Contour toolpath).

Going to go start on dinner now. Happy Thanksgiving to all those in the US!

Hi Stein,

Thank you for posting this!

I tested the Multi-axis Tilting option in 3D Contour but I was not able to reproduce the error. Would you be able to share a public link to the design with me? Also, screenshots of the issue would be helpful. I look forward to hearing from you.

@masa.minohara

Thanks for getting back. I have attached a file where I see the problem, and have made an accompanying screencast that I've embedded here.

This is just a quick example. I haven't gotten this to work even once, no matter which settings I use. The multiaxis toolpaths such as Swarf and Multiaxis Contour work fine (even if I need to work on my understanding of how to constrain them - they don't cause kernel errors).

So I was determined to expand my understanding of features I can't yet implement (unless someone wants to sponsor me for a 5 axis, I'd even take a UMC-750). I started off fresh on the sample pieces without examining your model and issues. I had no problem getting it to tilt to allow for clearance, even going to some rather ridiculous angles where you'd be a fool to not get a more appropriate tool and holder. No issues.

I've opened up your file. I've watched your screencast and I see the alarm. Simply opening up your operation and clicking ok clears the alarm. I'm scratching my head here, because the alarm goes away simply at a CTRL-G. Granted, there is no leaning going on since it's a long enough tool. But it regens. without alarm....

I wonder if I'm alone in this result?

Actually I think I'M alone in this issue. It makes zero sense. Even with a full clean install I get the error. I just want to know what the error means and what I can do to rectify the situation, and only Autodesk is likely to know the answer.

Regen didn't clear the alarm? Hmm, that is odd

I don't know what regenerating the toolpath after it failed on the initial generation would do, but it's certainly still invalid on my machine with the same error no matter how many times I hit that button. Smiley Frustrated

Can you regenerate it and attach it here with the valid toolpath? Just delete Setup1, duplicate Setup2 and regenerate one of them so it's valid again?

Here you go. I did nothing other than regen one operation

Has to be a system problem. Tomorrow I can try it on the work computer and see if it pops up there as well. I can't regenerate your path without the error either, and there are no differences in the Compare & Edit dialogue whatsoever (which their shouldn't be of course).

Aggravating to say the least.

For @masa.minohara:

Running Win7 Ultimate 64bit, Fusion 360 Ultimate, 16GB RAM, AMD FX8350 CPU, AMD Radeon HD 6970 GPU (yeah, old-ish, but still works) 120GB OCZ SSD... I don't know, anything else you need that'd be helpful?

Hi Stein,

Thank you for the details and the file. As Seth mentioned, re-generating the toolpath in your file removes the error in my environment as well and at the moment I'm not sure why it's causing an error in yours. I'll ask my colleagues to find out how to troubleshoot further. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

This happens with every single attempt I make at tilting the tool, something to pass on. This is just the simplest example made as you saw it. I didn't even test before recording the screencast.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Hi Stein,

I just found this issue has been logged as a defect (the ticket ID is CAM-5762 for your reference) in our internal system and the development team is currently investigating the issue and trying to fix it.

Again I am sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

Can you please check that you do not have Beta mode enabled.

From the Text Commands (Ctrl+Alt+C) window, type CAM.BetaMode /off

With that being said, we do have a fix for the underlying problem scheduled for the next update.

Turning Beta mode off did it. I was under the impression that like HSMWorks the betamode functionality did not remain on after closing the software. I suppose that's what I get for making assumptions! Smiley Embarassed

It also explains why I saw about five more fields in the tilting section of the dialogue than I do with betamode off.
