Hello,

I have been trying to form a toolpath using a slitting saw to cut a slot into a piece. I have been trying for hours, and I cannot get it want to play.. I know it's me, my lack of knowledge and understanding. I am sure..

If anyone is able to point me in the right direction with this, it would be highly appreciated.

I have attached a file for your to see. I am trying to use a 160mm diameter slitting saw.

Can`t use a 160mm diameter tool to cut a 27mm diameter arc ???

Best way would be to use a 15mm slot cutter and plunge straight down the hole which you will need to pocket out rather than your Bore operation which leaves a pillar in the middle, not ideal :slightly_smiling_face:

Easier if you take a look at the attached file, rather than me trying to go through it all in text, a bit rough but hopefully you can fine tune it to suit, just an example as a "pointer" for you, take particular note of the settings in the "Link" tab, these move the plunge around !!

Hope it helps a little.

Here is my shot at it, tool is restricted to given dimensions to clear shaft, cutting diameter must be smaller than contour diameter and width needs to be proportionally in sink with shaft or you will have heavy chatter as a result of wide cut and week shaft.

I took a cut from outside first instead of leaving negative stock to penetrate through outer edge of wall, it also provides way to evacuate chips when doing inside section.

I am baffled, the second file you uploaded has not been changed, you still have the 160mm slitting saw in the operation so won`t work.

Have you opened and gone through the file I uploaded for you ?? It works fine, just do the extra outside cut as @Anonymous suggests to make it easier for the tool ??

Hello,

I am very sorry.. I have had a bad week.. for many reasons.. i didn't read your first post fully.. It totally makes sense and I really appreciate your help with this. Although I am struggling still, as something is not quite right I think in my set up.. I will post that seperately. But I just wanted to say Thank you both...

Kind Regards
