Stock to Leave question

Hello, I'm finishing a mold and doing the sprue bushing hole - 1 inch. I roughed it with 1 cutter and finished it with a 2nd op, smaller so I can tweak it in.

For some reason I've been changing the Stock to Leave back and forth to the machine, spraying dykem, and changing cutters.

It's a Pocket. Stock to Leave doesn't seem to work. Yeah, I know. I used negative numbers to get the hole bigger but nothing happened.

I changed the tool diameter to fool it and that worked....Am I crazy?

Thanks!

Pocket doesn't use cutter compensation. You can lie to it and tell it to leave less "Stock On" or you can enable "Finishing Pass" and use cutter comp. Or, you could have a separate 2D contour pass

Are you saying the Stock to Leave box doesn't work in pocket?  The path is calculated based on the pocket perimeter, the size of the tool and the Stock to Leave box I thought. G41 isn't used unless I tell it to.

When I do a tight tolerance hole, as this for a sprue bushing I thought I had always used a negative number in this box to open the hole up as needed.

I was going back and forth, a few tenths at a time to no avail, then used layout fluid to find it wasn't doing anything except scuffing the blue off when I wanted .0003"

Thanks, I'll investigate further tomorrow. I've been wrong before

I guess the sprue bush is round so why not finish using Bore or Circular from the 2d menu. Also what type of pocketing op are you using 2d pocket of 2d adaptive?

Thanks,

My question is why did I change the Stock to Leave to a negative and it did nothing.

Regardless of what operation I selected, if there's a Stock to Leave data entry box it should work or it shouldn't be there.

It does normally work but if you're using adaptive it's not a finishing op so small changes might not affect the size, that's why I asked what type of op you're using.

Does the g code look different if you change the stock to leave and what tolerance have you set in the op. All hard to guess what's going on with no real info like a file.
