Setting the Origin Point to a Predefined point on a machine model

I have a 5 axis machine where the WCS origin point has been preset at the B axis rotation point and cannot be changed. I was hoping there may be a way to define the WCS origin based on the machine model rather than the stock box.

Currently I have to make a cylinder or something and move it the correct distance away and then use that as the zeroing point.

It would be far more convenient (and accurate) if I could define the zero point in the machine configuration, and then I just have to use the attach points option to position the part. If there are any ways to do this, that would be amazing!

Thanks for your help!

Hi

You can create a Template file that has a setup the has the WCS set to Model Origin.

In Machine builder set the part attachment point where you want the WCS to be located.

In the setup for part position set it to selected point and don't make any selections.

You position the part using a Joint in the Design workspace

Hello,

Thank you for the informative video! I think I understand the premise and I will give it a go now.

What is that parameters tab? And how do you move the vice automatically? Those both seem extremely useful!

Hi

The work holding template is based originally from this presentation by Rob Lockwood

https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Streamlining-CAM-Workflows-Templates-2019

Fusion has changed quite a bit since then but the fundamentals are the same

This is an up to date presentation from AU2024 which covers using Configurations

https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Templates-Configurations-and-Containers-for-Agile...

Give them a watch and then play around and come up with you own template for your Vices/Workholding
