Selected 3D data not understood / not following correct geomety

Received a .step file for a quote, the problem is that whenever i select a pocket to machine it selects a much larger area. Not sure technical term to describe it, so heres a picture. 

 

same goes for all other areas on the engraving. I can usually get around this by creating a sketch and projecting the pockets, then filling in the missing lines. However, there are probably 250 lines in this sketch.

The "overspill" Blue areas will not be machined, it is just a "glitch" in the software, as long as you select the correct areas and make sure the Red arrow is inside then it will work OK 🙂 🙂 🙂
