"Exclude" certain areas of part?

Any tips on how to machine one one (left or right) side of a part?

 

It looks like the CAM tools all use the full part contours for things like adaptive and other types of clearing..

 

Bascially, i want to hold the stock in the vice with small amount of stick out to the left to "adaptive clear" the corner cutouts, then swing the part around 180 degrees and do the other side..

 

I guess if there was a way to tell adaptive clearing or pocket strategies to exclude certaina areas of thepart?

Nevermind..  took a while but found a work-around..  if anyone has any ideas on how to do this without splitting into multiple bodies, please let me know 🙂

 

I basically split the model into 2 bodies, used only one side in the CAM and added zero stock in the setup, and adaptive clearing seems to be happy..

Yeah, easiest way if you don't have geometry to select for a machining boundary is to just go back in the model work space and draw a sketch around the part that you want to exclude (or the part you want machined).  So maybe add a rectangle that encloses half of your part - doesn't matter what plane it is on really.

 

Then on the Geometry tab set Machining Boundary to Selection, select that sketch and either set Tool Containment to Tool Inside boundary or Tool Outside boundary depending on how you drew it.  That will keep the tool in or out of where you don't want it.

Awesome!  Thank you so much!  Much more elegant solution..  Used a construction line rectangle and applied boundaries as suggested.

 

Works like a champ and I dont have to split the body! 🙂
