"Closed" chain with tangential extension

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to select a complete contour yet keep it open and control the distance between ends with the tangential extension? I want an operation that does things inside that corner too, except for 10mm on either side where there is still leftover material that would interfere with it.

The funny* thing is that even if I enclose the contour with two open-ended chains somehow Fusion merges the chains into a closed contour ignoring the gap specified in extensions.

I'm not entirely sure what you are looking to accomplish. Can you share your file and further details about what you're trying to do?

I want to run a tool along the red section of the contour but avoid the blue one, where there is still stock from the previous operation.

So the way I'd go about that are two:
1) Create a new sketch depicting exactly that

or

2) Modify the sketch used to create that outline and place "Break" points where you want to avoid.

Either one will allow for the level of control you are looking for.

The sketch idea would work, it just requires so many extra clicks while it looks like the operation has already all that is required, if not for forcing a chain closed by ignoring the specified extension.
