Question regarding the strategy and parameters to use a circular saw for roughing out stone

Hi,

I am currently using fusion to program a 5 axis bridge saw for milling 3axis. Here below are a few pictures of the results using only a stone milling cutter.

The process takes much time, so the idea is to cut parallel slots using the circular saw with 20mm spacing between each pass; I would leave enough stock and hammer down the walls (like seen in the last two pictures I put for illustration).

I would like the saw to plunge only 2-3cm at a time and also follow the profile of the model once reaching the final step downs.

Im having a specially hard time following the contour of a sculpted 3d model that has many complex shapes and vertices.

How would one proceed using fusion cam? Any tip or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Rajis

Are you using a specific post processor?

@Warmingup1953

mach3mill post pro seems to do the trick this far, i only change g54 to g154 and add G64 for continuous movement. What do you have in mind if I may ask?

For me it was just a thought bubble because I had seen a Youtube  with a saw in use albeit a simpler task... I'll link here but I fear it may be on the wrong track as you'd need 3D paths. It is a bit frustrating to watch but I think it does (Eventually) demonstrate swapping the Axis that is needed.

Hi

I have an idea using Steep n shallow.

You cannot create passes greater then the Flute length(Saw thickness) so say its a 4mm saw, you set the stepdown to 4mm and you get a toolpath like this

alaasW8M6T_0-1720046066764.png

Then using delete passes

alaasW8M6T_1-1720046110585.png

select every 5th line

alaasW8M6T_2-1720046202184.png

then invert the selection and delete all the other passes

This should follow all the 3d contours of the part while making the slices
