Hi, 

 

 this is my first shot at programming. wonder if someone is willing to look over it and let me know if there is anything that pops out as a problem?

 

some foot notes -- 

 - i am aware that the first op should be a a face mill, but i am trying to work with some of the tooling i currently have, and not really concerned about run time at this point - also the face will be brushed finish in the end. 

 - curious about how much material is being taken away by each tool pass, if this all seems sufficient. 

 - the main perimeter chamfer, this will actually be done with a 3/8 ball mill but kept getting an error saying the op is not supported by that tool choice. so my intension is to fake it and adjust the "wear" to get the right material finish.  

 - i used tools from the library that match what i have at the shop, my assumption is that the feed rate and rpm defaults are adequate.

 - I intent to do G54 operation then flip the material and set up again for the G55 in the same vise. 

 - i'm sure there will be more efficient tool paths or operation orders, but again i'm not too worried about time on this. more concerned about getting the steps right for now.

 

I am running a HASS VF0 - 1999 - for the post process i chose -HAAS (pre-ngc)

 

 my fingers are crossed that it all looks good.  any help is greatly appreciated, and i am very open to criticism

thank you, i appreciate your feed back.  

 

for the perimeter pass on the first program, i left some material on the bottom of the model because i need to grab onto 0.125 material, trying to keep my stock as small as possible with being able to bite it in the vise. with the depth of my jaws and the parallels i have this is what made sense to me. thoughts?

 

aside from that, that was all really good tips for me, i will make review again and make changes.

the norm is to hold onto 1/8"

You don't need to face that much off the top, why not change it like this

Now you have 0.14 underneath and 0.01 to face off, should work fine.

 

I'm not a big fan of using Relative size Box as the stock mode like this, If you know what the Stock size you have is why not just call it out as a Fixed size box, much easier to offset the part in the stock then

okay took me a bit to find the time to go through it all comprehensively... 

 

- I changed to fixed box size to match my material size

          * i changed the height (Z) of the material to 1/2 inch, as my model is 3/8 and have 1/2" material -- i ran into an issue here, my model is 0.375 tall but its giving me an error saying that my model is 0.58" tall. ?? not sure where it is getting that from and has caused an error in all the ops. 

- changed the step over on the initial facing tool - also only one pass now since i am only taking a small amount. 

- Changed the perimeter to 0.025 offset on model bottom so i have some clearance on my vice jaws - i'm hoping the chamfer on the bottom side will clean up a small edge

- change pocket roughing to stock bottom 

- changed step roughing to 1/8 tool, added the nibble in the corners on both upper and lower pockets. 

- added counter bore to design model and added a boring operation. 

 

* I changed the origin of the model to have the circle at the top, this will work better with how i intend to hold the material 

* for the ball mill on the chamfer, my intension was to have an inverted fillet for a finished edge. that would match another piece he has in the car already. 

 

Let me know your thoughts, thank you very much for your help! all really good information and trying to learn and not just copy the steps, so thank you for the video. 

 

I believe my only issue right now is that it thinks the model is 0.58 when it is actually only 0.375 so i'm getting some errors.

Hi

 

The Warning about the model being larger than the stock is due to you selecting this component as your model selection

That component contains the mesh body too which is larger than the Part body.

You can just select the Part body.

 

That will also fix the rest machining error.

 

To use the Continue rest machining, the Model selections must be the same in both setups, also the Model selection cannot be Multiple bodies(It can be a component containing multiple bodies though)

 

I did not realise that you wanted an Inverted Fillet with the ballnose, you can do this the way you had originally intended adjusting stock to leave  to get a result.

 

You can also model this feature, but its not quite as simple as using the fillet tool.

finally got my piece done, it came out perfectly! 

 

 had a small issue with my Z height, not sure if it was a measuring thing or if i didn't locate my model in the stock correctly. but it was minor and i was able to adjust the machine on the fly to compensate.
