Problem with 2 sided setup

In the attached file I have 2 setups to machine both sides of a part. Setup1 works fine but setup 2 will not let me drill the 4 holes that don't go right through. I get the error message "Warning: Cylindrical face is opposite to tool's orientation!". It works if I select any of the through holes. I thought it might be a problem caused by having a thread in those holes but suppressing the threads made no difference. So I don't know what I have wrong.

This looks like a problem with cross holes breaking into the selected cylinder. This is a known issue and is being worked on. If you select the top edge of the hole and set the depth manually you should be able to get your part cut.

The cross holes don't intersect the cylinders i'm trying to select so I don't think it's that. I'll try your idea of selecting edges tomorrow.

Thanks Mark.

I figured out what the problem is, you need flat bottom holes. I made the holes using the hole tool, the hole type was set to simple with default settings you get a 118° tip angle, setting the tip to 180° solves the problem.

I've experimented a bit more with this and some odd things are going on. First I started with a block with 1 hole in the top and one in the bottom face both with a 118° tip, drill work perfectly. Then I added 2 more holes 1 in the top and one in the bottom and things start to go wrong.

I've attached this file as well.

actually the simple example with one hole in the top and one in the bottom face only works if the holes are inline.

Hi Jeff

Did you find anything wrong with the files attached to this thread or the one I emailed. Just wondering if I had something set wrong or if the problem is in Fusion.

Yes I did it all seems to be caused by the system trying to drill holes from both sides of the part when you use the select same diameter. I did report is so the developers will be looking into it.

Thanks Jeff,

That's quite easy to work around now I know.

Would it be possible to add an option so that when you have "Select same diameter" ticked you can also have Select only same depth as well.

Thanks Mark.

Just ran into this bug, too. Select Same Diameter was not working, but I had left it checked and hand selected the rest of the holes.

I unchecked Same Diameter and it started working fine.

The problem with the select same diameter is still here, couldn't you make a feature like select same axis? so that holes from other sides and orientation of the model does not interfere with the process?

The system should only be looking is the Z- direction and if it’s not accessible from that view it shouldn’t get picked up. That’s what ticket CAM-2247 is for.

That clarifies things, there is however another problem i have found.

If i have a part where there are two holes from different sides but aligned if you look at them from above (ie a cube with two holes in the middle but not all the way through from Top and Bottom of the cube) then fusion automatically tries to drill through the whole cube instead of stopping at the depth of the first hole, this only happens when they are aligned in z axis and only when select same diameter is ticked. this feels like a bug or something since fusion seems to see the two different holes as one long hole.

Maybe this should be in another post but since it applies to select same diameter i thought i might as well post it here.

what happens if you turn off the Auto-Merge Hole Segments?

Message 18 of 22

No, difference at all i'm afraid, i did not have it turned on at all and i've also tried order by depth to no avail.

Message 19 of 22

Can you get me the file? I’m not able to reproduce the issue.

I made a new file with the setup so you can check with three different options of drilling options, as you can see the ones where either auto select is ticked or auto-merge the part gets drilled all thorugh.
