preview vs. simulation - toolpath changes critically - linear pattern (for multiple parts) containing a mirror pattern

Here is my christmas issue:

I've sketch driven toolpath on a symmetric part. I use the trace toolpath to cut on the sketchline. And apply a mirror pattern to get the 2nd part of the toolpath. so far so god. machined the testpart. now to the batch ...

I setup a linear pattern and the preview toolpath looks like expected. a linear row of the two toolpath. great.

BUT

the simulated (and posted and excecuted ... ) toolpath is much different. It seems to maintain the static mirror plane reference instead of shifting it. really strange.

The two center toolpath around the visible origin are the source for the linear pattern. and the pattern should generate copies to the right.

Best,

Stefan

PS: I'll just try to mirror the sketch items and take it from there as plan B

PSS: In general I do check the CAM simulations carefully. I programmed and tweaked the complete part. And 'only' applied a linear pattern to get multiple parts, this time without checking the simulation of the hole 25x linear pattern ... the preview made complete sense and that was enough for me ... endmill broken ... lesson learned.

Due to the symmetry of the sketch I turned the mirror pattern into a circular pattern and everything works fine, but it still shouldn't be like that.

preview matches simulation agains 🙂

Best,

Stefan

Would you be able to share the file so we can investigate your selections and settings? (Preferably, of the error, not your workaround). You can get to the older version by opening it from the Data Panel, and then exporting it as an .f3d/.f3z file and attaching it in your reply

Hi Seth,

I quickly build a minimal example with just a sketch and not bodies at all.

shows the error perfectly.

Thanks,

Stefan

Yep, I'm definitely seeing that. Flipping the order of Linear and Mirror Pattern, the toolpath preview becomes correct (it shows what the original sequence only shows at Simulation)

There is certainly a bug at play. Not sure if the bug lies in the toolpath display portion, or the calculation portion. I'll open a ticket this morning and get it investigated.

I've opened up CAM-33833 to investigate
