Post in Mac not appending file extension

Hello all,

This was talked about here a little while ago.

On Macs currently, Posting a file does not automatically append a file extension (like .cnc) on save. (But it used to). Instead, it is saved without a file extension. I heard that this would be fixed in an upcoming update and was wondering if there was a date for that yet. It can be a little confusing for myself and my machine operator when a file won't load on the machine due to the missing extension. Most OSs hide file extensions by default, so noticing the extension doesn't exist is difficult.

Mac users can also attest to the fact that changing a file extension on a Mac simply isn't as easy as it is on PC.

So, does anyone have a date or estimation as to when this change will be pushed out?

Thanks!

I won’t guarantee it but it should be in the next release.

I'm not familiar with the release schedule, where do I find the information for when that will be? Or is it not a specific date?

@AnonymousWhat machine are you useing?

I did find that on my mach3 pc if i opened the flle from the usb sticj and then adding the extention into the properties box fixed the issue.

I also found durring my frustartaions, that saving the MOPs into a folder to keep them neat did not work well.

Annoying with the post on mac isnt it?

I agree, the post on Mac is sad. I long for the post I see in Windows.

I am using a custom Post based on the MultiCam post. Basically, I need the files to be .cnc extension. If I remember to put it in the Save window as part of the name it is fine. Otherwise, I do have to choose "Get Info" and change the extension there (adding it to the file name after the file has been created doesn't seem to work).

Techinically, my machine operator could change the extention on his PC, but he isn't very confident in computers. He does all the machining from the controllers basically. We are a very small shop. So he ends up coming in to me because if it doesn't have the extension, the controllers won't display the program at all.

@Anonymous

Some people are determind to fail with computers.

My mum is one such person. happy to hand wring and then let some one do it for her.

a few years a ago she went and did a course at colage to help her computing skills. She claims she can't remember a word of it.

More likely she can't be bothered.

I also run into the other end of the spectrum.

People who have done it their way for years. So why should they cahnge? A guy I know has just aquired a HASS second hand from a liquidated company.

built 2010 then regular services. for what he paid it was criminal! If only I had the space.

The Guys operator wont use HSM "cos it will knacker the ball screws" then its "I have been a CNC operator for 80 years" kind of thing.

I told my client to sack him. he's costing you money!

As to Mac posts.

well its just a feature. not a wanted feature i must add!

Show your operator how to browse a file and what right click does!

I understand what you mean, with some people want to fail. And others stuck in their ways.

There is a lot of hurt feelings if I am too strict with the operator (he's my dad, of all things!) so I'll probably just change it for him.

I was just wondering when the next update would be because I heard (and earlier in this thread it was confirmed) that this "feature" would be fixed then.

Thanks for your help!

It seems there was an update today but Post files still aren't appending the file type in Mac - at least for me.

Is there an update about the timeline for this?

Yeah, I guess it might be in the next update (I heard there is another update in the end of Jan) I just wish I could get an exact date and make sure it didn't get forgotten. 🙂

I must admit to thinking.

"Nice one "

but to be honest now I can get the router PC to open the file. It's not bothering me so much.
