Open pocket, 2D Adaptive clearing, rapid collision with stock

I have to mill several open pockets and I'd like to use a 2D Adaptive toolpath.   However, I'm getting warnings about a "rapid collision with stock" that I don't know how to address.

I thought that in the 2D Adaptive toolpath the bit spiraled in to the stock.  In this case, it  plunges in to the full depth before tracing a path.  This puts too much of a strain on the bit, and thus is something I'd like to avoid, but I don't know if it is possible.  Does the 2D Adaptive toolpath only spiral in for closed pockets, not open ones?   Can I ramp in somehow?

I could use multiple depths, of course, but that seems to defeat the purpose of the Adaptive path.

Thanks,

@sjj530

For what it looks like you are trying to do the the 3D Adaptive would IMHO be a better option for you, see image below and attached modified file.

@engineguy is right you probably want to use 3D adaptive.

The reason why you are getting a plunge into stock is because your stock contour selection is wrong. You have selected that pocket as the stock so the toolpath thinks it is plunging outside of the stock material hence there is no helix.

I see what you are saying.  I will try the 3D toolpath.

Thanks!

That solves the problem.  Thank you!
