It's anybodies guess as to why, and I don't think you are going to get a developer to chime in and give the rationale. It would be nice if I could define an angular entry (such as entering at the 3 'o clock position), if I don't have the option of defining a point. I know I asked the question a long time ago and was given a non-answer, of sorts
I agree, also it would be really neat if we could do an overlap as found in the chamfer operation, Just to try to reduce the entrée step that sometimes forms in 2d circular
Honestly the Circular toolpath is just a stripped-down 2D Contour. I haven't used it in years, as it's just not adaptable or adjustable enough IMO.
Agreed. The thing that I do like about the Circular operation is the "Lead to center" aspect, which is replicable (is that a word?) with math on the 2D contour option. The reason I like it is I'm occasionally splicing together programs, or doing quick edits at the machine. Having the center option gives me a bit of confidence boost when I'm juggling a dozen other things
This is a nice feature, especially if you have a drilled hole already in the middle. My go-to for that though tends to be Bore which has the same function but I don't have to bother with stepdowns and a bunch of linking. However I can see how Circular might be very useful if one doesn't have a powered Z-axis and needs to set Z height manually with a quill (like a Proto Trak or EZ Trak conversion).
