New user needs someone to point him in the right direction.

Hi,

I'm pretty new to Fusion 360 for 3D printing and now I got my fathers CNC machine so I want to start using the CAM section.

Watched some video's and start to understand how stuff works, Though now I imported a mesh and I'm not sure how to make toolpaths for these projects.

So if someone can point me into the right direction I'd be very happy.

Files:

Source: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1368849
Fusion file with my toolpaths: https://a360.co/2ATTgj2

What I've done so far, Added some adaptive cleaning with a 6mm bit and some parallel milling with 6 and 3mm bits

I think it starts to look like something though I'm not sure yet.

Then there's one more problem, I want to cut out the piece and because it's a mesh I can't use 2D Contour.

Please help me out, I really want to use the CNC machine for more then Easel flat milling projects.

Jasper

No one knows if I did it right?

Sorry for the delayed response, it seems this one slipped through the cracks.

Your stepover is much too large, given the size of your tool. I'd suggest around a .27mm stepover, that will give you a decent finish that can be sanded.

I'd also suggest going with a Scallop or Morph Spiral toolpath, even though it may be slightly more code and cycle time. You may find that the finished product is more visually appealing.

You can't use 2D toolpaths with mesh files, so you will have to sketch your profile manually. I'd suggest moving your model close to the origin so you can more easily make a sketch plane.

Thank you very much Seth,

I'll give it a try.
