Can anyone walk me through the best way to cut the features on this part? This is a test piece for exactly what it looks like. I need to cut the pocket and the tang features but I can not figure out what to do to make it work. I will post the file. The pocket will be cut held horizontal in a vice or fixture on a vf4 mill and the tang will most likely be held vertically to cut the tang area.. This is all trial and error design phase right now.

I'm guessing you don't have a 4th axis, huh?

Are you relatively knew to machining, or is this just something that's fallen outside the scope of your comfort level (hey, we all start somewhere, it's not a judgement)?

Are you okay with the idea of doing this in 5-6 separate setups?

I'll likely not be able to post much more tonight, but your answers to the above questions will help other users guide you in the right direction

I am relatively new to fusion......and it drives me nuts. I know what I want it to do but making it do it is another thing. Yes I have a vf2 with 4th axis and rotary also a 2022 vf4 wired for axis but no rotary for it yet. I expected this to be done in many operations as it it has to be turned then cylindrical ground to 1.350. Then a .700 hole put in it, threaded and then all the pocketing. Then the part will have to be heat treated and checked for warping. Any warpage will have to be corrected before assembly.. I have been machining at my own small job shop for 6 years so I guess I am relatively new to machining by some standards but not a green tomato by any means.. I have problems with fusion. I like it but also hate it I guess its a love hate relationship.....I learn by doing and asking questions as I am doing so I guess this is where I am having a hard time learning fusion, no one to ask directly how to do something. It is not offered at any of the local tech schools and online tutorials are mostly simple parts which I do use fusion quite a bit for the simple stuff but this one is tough for me.. Thank you for responding to my post.

Great, thanks for sharing your background and the process for the part.

Couple of things;

1) You have questions, we have answers. Anytime you run into an issue, post here and we'll help you out.

2) Targeted questions and descriptions. Try to avoid "how do a make all of this" and instead opt for "how do I get a toolpath on this one feature here"

Thanks for the suggestions. Ok just so you know where I am at, I was able to build a fixture that will hold two of these upright to drill the hole in the end, I have a .701 12xd drill body for the hole. in fusion I was able to drill and thread mill the threads, cut the counterbore in the end. So that s done and looked good in simulation. So now I am to the tang end and when I try to do an adaptive to remove most of the material I can not get it to cut correctly. So with that said and I know that was vague but I need to remove all of that material on the opposite end of the threaded hole and I do not know how to begin. I am thinking about trying to hold it in the same fixture and side mill most of it away with adaptive so the angles of the tang will be cut correctly but you guys may know a much better way.

If you have the ability to hold it upright, then I would certainly use 3D Adaptive to do the work there. Could you share your most recent file so we can see your selections? (assuming of course that you're still having issues)
