I have a 2.5D model that I would like cut out a large piece of stock.

This workflow is for a CNC machine (not a mill with a vice). So the stock I have is 24" x 24" and the part is 6"x 20"

What is the best way to set this up?

Should I model the stock and shift it in an assembly to locate my part with in it?

Can some one please shed some insight?

When you do the setup you select the stock body for the stock in the stock tab you set it as from solid

okay, so I just model  my stock as a component, and move the part "another component" into it.

What works best in practice?

modeling the stock and moving it to the part, or moving part into the stock?

What happens when you want to cut 3 parts at once?

Can I have a file with the stock and link the parts into it for programming?

you don't need to move anything you sketch the stock and have the sketch positioned so when you extrude it it puts the stock body where you wont it to be, you just turn the model off before you extrude.

Attached is an example of a way to do it.

The link takes me to your overall youtube not a specific example.

It would be great to see it because I am having a hard time understanding what you are suggesting.

Ideally I think I would want to link multiple instance of the same part into a model with the stock to machine several at the same time.

It is quite hard to explain how to do it, if you require a screencast just ask it's no biggie
