Manufacture Workspace Issues on Windows 7

Hey everyone,

It has come to our attention that Windows 7 users have been experiencing problems with the Manufacturing workspace. Users may be unable to generate machine operations of many types. Please note that support for Windows 7 ended in 2020.

New installs and live updates on Windows 7 and Windows 8 will be blocked by Fusion 360 beginning in late March, 2022.

If you’re experiencing these issues, we have provided the attached .dll that Windows 7 users can replace for Fusion’s current .dll. Download the attached Zip archive and view the readme for instructions. [UPDATE: Attached Zip archive replaced 1/31/2022]

Between now and late March, any new update will replace the .dll file in the attachment. When this happens you will need to replace the attached file again following the same instructions.

Please reply here with any questions or comments.

Hi @stellartechonline  -

What are you seeing with the zip file? I just downloaded it from the post, and it seems fine as far as I can tell.

I cannot access the DLL. The ZIP file is corrupted and won’t unzip. I’ve tried two different PC’s and a Mac.

Try to extract the file in a folder, not "here" or "all"

Thanks. Yes, indeed, there appears to be a problem. We'll get it fixed up, and post here.

Hello,

For others facing this same issue and reading this thread. I have downloaded the .dll file and instructions but I personally do not have any idea where it is supposed to go? The instructions are written for someone who knows computer programming.  I did a "Search" for several of the directory terms that they say you should follow to find the place where you are supposed to replace the existing .dll file but my computer came up with 0 results? So are these hidden files withing the registry? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Jgaertner

Introduction
------------

Jan 26 2022

This folder contains an updated camkernel.dll, which should be copied into the current production
release of Fusion 360, replacing the same-named file there.

This is a slightly older version of the file than had been included, and our testing shows that
it should not suffer the same problem as the other one on Windows 7 systems.

Please apply this using the following steps.

NOTE: If Fusion updates, it may put the old file back, into a new subdirectory. In that event,
this procedure would need to be repeated.

Steps
-----

0. Make sure Fusion is not running.

1. Copy the files in this folder into a location on your machine where you can find them again.

2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory:
%localappdata%\autodesk\webdeploy\production<release_id>
where <release_id> is a long string of letters and numbers.

The current production release should be "5f961055b6b4e87cb54d819910f25c62ea3df4be". If there's
been an update, you might see a different name.

3. Inside that folder, navigate down to the Applications/CAM360 subfolder.

4. Rename the existing "camkernel.dll" file -- e.g., to "zzcamkernel.dll".

5. Copy the "camkernel.dll" file from the folder you used in #1 into Applications/CAM360.

6. Restart Fusion, and see how things behave. It's only toolpath generation that should be affected.

The steps in the readme (which you just posted) outline this VERY well. I think you're confusing Windows Explorer with Registry Editor.

Its says "Windows Explorer" in the instruction?    Jgaertner

Yes. Windows Explorer is correct. That’s your standard file explorer.

You mentioned registry, so I just wanted to clarify, it’s NOT done using Registry Editor.

OK, well why can't I find this directory on my hard drive?  I am not trying to be argumentative. I am just trying to solve this issue for my business.  I have searched my entire C drive looking for this directory and or the old .dll file and the search function does not come up with anything but the dll I just downloaded and saved to my desktop? @jgaertner  In this path which directory are you not able to see?

%localappdata%\autodesk\webdeploy\production\<release ID>

What happens when you open a windows explorer and type in - %localappdata%

OK, so somehow that did work. As far as finding the folders. My release _id was different? But the release_id folder that was quoted in the email had no files in it?  I will reboot my computer and try again.  Jgaertner

Every time that there's an update, you'll get a new release id folder. Typically, all -- or at least almost all -- of the files in the older release directory will be removed when that happens. So, generally, the "right" one is the one that has a full complement of files in it, including the Applications/CAM360 folder.

For others who have the same problem. I DID get the patch to work. I had a real tough time finding the correct folder but the link, above in this thread has more details, and communications with Fusion staff that helped me get my  beloved Win 7 computer working again with Fusion 360. Thanks to everyone for their help and patience.  Jgaertner

Thank you, seems to have worked.

Tip: Sort your releases by date then just pick the newest release.
