Machining Undercut

Hopefully someone can help me
I'm trying to machine an undercut with a 2mm Ball Endmill.
I'v tried Contour and Steep and Shallow like in the Tutorial, but for some reason i can't get it to work.
Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong and can point me in the right direction?

Hi

For steep and shallow you need to select Steep only and then the machine undercuts checkbox appears

Turning on collision avoidance from point gets contour to work too

I have attached the file with Blend, Flow and Geodesic as examples too

Have a look through the settings to see how it is achieved

Could I interest you in a really nice looking Geodesic?

I'm puzzled why the Contour didn't hit the undercut, it's normally rather good at that. Admittedly, I've not yet tried it in multi-axis mode, so there may be an issue that needs to be investigated. Ah well, another task for me tomorrow 🙂

@a.laasW8M6T thanks for reminding me about the Collision Avoidance requirement for Contour!

-EDIT-

But, it doesn't appear that your version has any better luck getting into the corner 🤔

@seth.madore , I just assumed it was due to the multi axis-ing haha, I didn't look closely I now recall that Contour can only do undercuts in 3 axis I'm pretty sure

EDIT: It seems to work in 5 axis with a lollipop, not sure why it wont with a ballnose

Thank you both for your help! I did it for now with Steep and Shallow, will look into Geodesic more in future! Didn't really use that so far.
Thanks again!

Just a nice thing to look forward to; we've done some work in this area and a future release should see the ability for Contour to handle undercuts when in 5 axis mode 😁
