Machining position of 5-axis is misaligned.

Thanks for your help.
I am struggling to try out the 5-axis CAM feature and have a question.
I created a path using the 5-axis option with a simple pocket removal to test the operation.
When I run it, it cuts through the air, so it must be off somewhere, but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

 

I use Hand-made 5-axis CNC.


The machine I am using is not in the library, so I use 「AutodeskGeneric5axis (ACtable)」 with  no TCP.
About post, I chose 「5ASISMAKER」 which is close in shape since there is no post.

I have defined the machine configuration, but I have not defined where the C axis is placed on the A axis, so I am wondering if it is misaligned with the rotated position of the actual machine.
Is this misalignment caused by the machine's table positioning relationship not being defined correctly?
If so, where is it defined (offset in machine settings? 3D model shape?)?
If you know anything about this, please let us know.

Hi

 

The error is due to two things here.

  1. Your machine model probably doesn't match the real machine in terms of the positions of the rotary centerlines
  2. For Non TCP work you must position your WCS on the intersection point of the Two rotary axes

You can use offsets in the machine definition to get this location on the top of the table but the machine model must match the real machine in terms of the positions of the rotary centerlines

Thanks for the detailed advice!

I may not understand everything because my English listening is not perfect, but I am trying to follow your advice.

I checked with the developer of the machine and he told me the orthogonal points of the A and C axes and set them up.
The offset of the A axis is 100mm, so I set it in the machine definition.

When the table surface is in the Z minus direction of the rotary axis as shown in the image, is the offset Z100 on the A axis or Z-100?

I may need to prepare a model of the machine because whichever I enter the machining position is still not correct

Hi

 

I don't think the offset values have any effect when there is a Model(They are used when you have a Machine definition with no Model)

 

You would probably be better to create a model of your machine that includes the offsets in the design.

It doesn't have to be detailed, you can use simple representations of the parts rather than model all the extrusions

I had added more offsets to the preset 3D model, so the coordinates were greatly off.

I found the CAD data for the CNC on github and used that to define the machine.
The result was good.

 

I have not yet worked out how to use the offset without the CAD data.

 

It was a great experience to be able to do 5-axis machining on my own CNC.
