How do I create a Drill/Tap Combo Tool and then set the CAM to use it?

I am wanting to drill and tap a hole using a Drill/Tap combo tool. When I try and create the tool, a Drill/Tap type is not an option. Which option should I use to create the tool (Drill, Tap, ...)? Then based on the type selected, how should I fill in the Geometry?

Once I get the tool created, how do I tell Fusion 360 that it is not just a drill or tap?

Thanks.

To the best of my knowedge this is not a tool that is used in industrial processes and therefore is not going to be supported. The to operations require very different control and there is not a single standard CAM op to do this.

For tapping you need the feed rate to match the pitch of the thread other wise broken tap. However if you try to push the drill through the material at the tapping pitch you will almost certainly break the drill.

The only way i can think that this would work is where the tapped holes are through holes and the drill breaks through the bottom before the tap engages with the work piece. If this is the case then you might get away with setting up 2 different tools in the library (one as a drill and one as a tap) with the same tool number.

You could then

  1. Use a drill operation ensuring it does not drill so deep as to engage the tapping portion of the combo tool.
  2. Follow up with a tapping operation that pushes the tool deeper but at the correct feed rate to actually tap the hole.
