Getting rid of wasted passes.

Forgive my ignorance, I am new to Fusion 360 and to CAD and CAM in general.

Ive searched for this topic but couldn't find anything that helped.

I am using a 3d parallel pass to make a waving flag.  The first 2 or 3 passes it only cuts a few select areas of the flag, but the tool still runs the entire length of the flag.  How can I eliminate this in order to save time on machining.

With Axial Offset Passes, there is no "trimming" of the toolpath to the model surface. Your best bet would be to run your 3D Adaptive (or 3D Pocket) operation first, and then come in with the Parallel for a finish cut

Ok thank you.

One more question though. I setup a 3d pocket operation for a roughing pass.  How do I let the parallel pass know that the roughing has been done? When I simulate it acts as if the pocket hasn't been done yet.

Oh, that's an easy one! You can drag and drop the order of operations around.

The Simulation (and the post processor) treat the operations in the order they are given.

Do I need to make a new setup for the second operation? I have the pocket first, but when I simulate the parallel still acts as if nothing has been cut.

I attached the file.

Also, thanks for all the help Seth!!

You will need to simulate the full setup. You can do that by CTRL selecting each operation as needed, or selecting the top level "Setup" for those operations

Ok I figured out my problem.  I still had axial offset passes on so it was doing  3 or 4 passes.  I saw the tool working above the stock and assumed it didn't include the last operation.

Thanks again for all the help Seth! (and sorry for all the dumb questions 😋)
