Geometry selections: Undesirable behavior on edge case.

Ok so I'd like to contour the flat edge of a cylinder. Instead of driving my toolpath off a sketch line I've opted to select the edge of the cylinder's face:

But the stock might be inconsistent so I've opted to change the selection to an open chain (despite it not being an open chain) and add some extensions. This generates fine with no warning:

However if I edit the selection it reverts back to a closed chain without extensions:

You can change your lead in to be 0* and add whatever Linear Lead In extension you want for the length. This is what I used to do before you could edit the selections. 
3d contour may also work and then you can just change your stock size in the setup.
