G53 Z0 help please

Good Morning,

I am unable to properly use fusion 360 with my CNC router =(.

I do not have a limit switch on the Z axis and the default post keep trying to move the spindle to the machines coord. Zero. (apparently from my research and similar threads)

Is there a way to change this in the post, or I should say, can someone please help me by editing the attached post so that the machine moves to the clearance plane before and after its cutting operation rather than trying to crash my Z axis into my ceiling? lol

Thank you in advance folks.

Are you homing the machine before useing it, then setting your work Zero

So I have limits on the X and Y , not Z

I home to the X and Y and naturally the Z is skipped.  Then I jog to my stock and zero the X,Y,Z to the stock top corner (to match Fusion or RhinoCAM).

Then I usually job the Z up away from the stock.

In RhinoCAM, the Z goes up to a "Safe-Z" then starts the program.

Here with Fusion, it moves the Z to the absolute machine coord zero which can either be in the stock or way far away from the machines range.

The Z home position could (it's a very bad thing to do just skipping it)  be anywhere does the UCCNC have a home in places function, if your not sure about this jump on the uccnc forum and ask,  ask terry TP or Gerry Ger21 they will know.

Accepted solution

Just wanted to update.

I contacted autodesk post support and they provided some assistance.

In the end however the post did not work as expected. It is best to just try to implement a Z limit switch OR manually zero the machine coordinate of the Z axis to a know save elevation on the machine.

so what I ended up doing as part of my machine setup, I raise my Z axis 2" from the work piece and Zero my machine coordinate of Z at that elevation.

When the program finishes, the Z will lift to the clearance place specified in the CAM program and then more to the machine's absolute Z height = 0 which is what G53 does.

no, I am fast with that e-stop is what that is called lol.  I wish machines would not move at rapids between positions etc. I have crashed my previous router many times.

You can change that in some paths in the linking tab - high feedrate mode and in the pre post dialogue also if you have a look at compare and edit, you can change some settings there as well.

I have this problem also, i edit the gcode and put G53 Z-1.5 (depends on the height of your stock) and it keeps it from raising all the way or saying it exceeds maximum limit. have to edit the beginning and end code.
